In addition to completion of 36 credit points of BU or BX subjects and being enrolled in their last year of their course, students must submit an application on InPlace https://inplace.jcu.edu.au. Use your jc username and password to log onto the site. Students must complete an independent project application form which includes submitting a detailed project proposal for approval before being granted permission to enrol in this subject. This process only applies to students enrolled on the Townsville or Cairns campus.
This subject is designed primarily for students already in paid employment, to complete an independent project for their workplace which is relevant to their degree and their workplace/industry. As the name suggests, the Independent Project subject is more 'project' based rather than task/activity based as an internship position might be, and involves students applying knowledge from their university study to address a particular problem or industry issue in their workplace. The project should be of a student's own design but developed in consultation with workplace supervisors. It must be authentic and must be completed in addition to 'normal' paid duties. To be eligible to apply, students must be in paid employment, must have completed a minimum 36 credit points of BU or BX subjects and be enrolled in their final year of study. Students interested in applying are required to submit a project proposal on InPlace, which requires subject coordinator approval. The proposal must demonstrate how the project assists in developing/improving workplace skills; address an industry issue and contribute to industry. Students can log into InPlace using their jc user name and password and upload their proposal by following the 'self placement' option under Independent Project. This process applies to students enrolled on the Townsville or Cairns campus and external students.
