Students will undertake a 500 hours block placement with an accredited community welfare or social work supervisor. This provides the foundation for further theoretical, empirical and applied study. Placement preparation workshops will be held prior to placement beginning.
Learning Outcomes
- Begin to identify appropriate methods of intervention, describe their theoretical underpinnings and critically reflect on their effectiveness in addressing service user needs;
- Develop an understanding of social welfare organisations and critically reflect on how service delivery is framed to meet client needs, organisational goals and community expectations;
- Develop an understanding of major social, political and economic factors and their impact on agencies and shaping policy and practice;
- Develop a process of reflective practice that considers the impact of policies and practice paradigms on practice intervention and client groups;
- Engage in and/or be able to identify appropriate research activities that could inform and/or enhance professional practice in the light of clients needs, organizational goals and social policy;
- Develop a method for identifying and/or engaging in continuing education and reflective practice with the view of developing an ethical practice model.
Assumed Knowledge: | To undertake this subject, students must have successfully completed 12 credit points (four subjects) of level 1 study at tertiary level |
