James Cook University Subject Handbook - 2015

TM5559 - Clinical Tropical Paediatrics

Credit points: 03
Year: 2015
Student Contribution Band: Band 3
Administered by: College of Public Health, Medical & Vet Sciences

This subject is conducted off-shore in a tropical, developing country as a two week block. Students, accompanied by JCU staff with expertise in paediatrics, neonatology and public health, will visit a range of urban and regional hospitals and health facilities. Local health staff will facilitate teaching ward rounds and whilst paediatrics is the main focus, opportunities to observe tropical conditions in adults will be taken. Case presentations and discussions around issues of public health importance will be conducted in the evenings. During the course we are fortunate to be able to visit a range of development projects run by local and international non-government organisations; this is an exciting opportunity to see first hand the health and social impacts of microfinance and other grassroots projects.

There are additional charges for this subject; please contact the School for details.
