Available to level 4 occupational therapy students enrolled in the honours course.
This subject is an honours practice education subject and is in place of OT4001. The subject will provide students with an opportunity to further integrate their learning gained from previous practice education and to undertake research at an honours level. The focus of this subject will be on the student developing a higher level of professional skill and competencies, and further advancing their research, clinical reasoning skills and reflective practice through the integration of practical and course components. As part of this subject, students will complete a minimum of 380 hours which includes a 10 week advanced supervised fieldwork placement with flexible support from the University. The placement will be either rural or urban at an advanced level and will enable the student to apply, develop, analyse and integrate the theories, principles and practice of occupational therapy in a variety of settings. Students may be required to undertake placements in a facility away from the campus at which they are currently enrolled, at their own expense.
Learning Outcomes
- the ability to apply research methodologies, demonstrate and apply data collection techniques, analyse data collected and report of findings to fullfil the requirements of an honours research project;
- demonstrate competency in observation and assessment of function or dysfunction in activities affecting occupational performance;
- demonstrate competency in the evaluation of clients' occupational roles and activities;
- develop individual aims of intervention and outcomes of practice for clients, demonstrating competent clinical reasoning within cultural, psychosocial and environmental contexts;
- demonstrate professional occupational performance attitudes and behaviours during practice. Achieve competency for registration requirements.
