This subject builds on the theory and practice of mediation presented in Mediation. It draws on the expertise of experienced mediators and considers in more depth different models of mediation, advanced skills, topical issues, ethical issues, and the future of mediation practice in Australia. This subject is designed to provide a deeper appreciation of the potential alternative pathways to assisting in the resolution of disputes. It also focuses on the importance of reflective practice, and students will participate in activities to develop their capacity as reflective practitioners of mediation. Students must have completed Mediation prior to doing Advanced Mediation.

Learning Outcomes

• critically analyse complex conflicts and conflict management systems;
• independently and critically reflect on and assess their own capabilities and performance, and make use of feedback as appropriate, to support personal and professional development;
• exercise independent ethical judgment and initiative in conflict management and resolution practice and research;
• evaluate complex conflict and related theories and standards for professional practice in CMR.

Special Assessment Requirements:	One workshop: 21-23 August 2015. Compulsory pre-reading required prior to attending workshop. This subject is taught primarily online through LearnJCU and students need to participate online throughout the whole study period. Students must engage in online learning from the first week of the study period and throughout the entire study period.
