Available to students in the level 4 English Honours program.
Students read a selection of some of the most interesting and influential works of Australian writing published in recent decades. The subject examines innovation and experimentation in such genres as the novel, short story, poetry, autobiography and biography, travel writing and other forms of non-fiction, as well as the blurring of boundaries between these categories.
Learning Outcomes
- a detailed knowledge of each of the set texts;
- a familiarity with the critical reception of the set texts and the secondary literature surrounding them;
- a sense of the progressive development of an identifiably Australian tradition of writing;
- an understanding of the changes in the generic boundaries of Australian literature;
- an understanding of the influence of social, political and literary developments in the period.
