Vector field theory, Maxwells equations, Boundary conditions and the Poynting vector. Time-harmonic solutions of the wave equation. Plane wave propagation in materials and at boundaries. Skin effect. Wave guides. Electromagnetic radiation from a dipole antenna. Antenna parameters; radiation pattern, beam width, radiation resistance, gain. Antenna arrays. Electromagnetic wave propagation around the earth, multipath propagation and channel capacity limitations. Mobile radio cell planning. Satellite communication systems, radar, satellite and terrestrial microwave link planning. Fibre optics, radar systems.
