If a student has already completed the Graduate Certificate of Research Methods (GCRM) they can enrol in ED5096 to upgrade their qualification to an Honours degree in Education (at AQF level 8). If a student enrols in a one year full time Honours degree in Education (at AQF Level 8), they will need to enrol in the full chain of subjects, ED5190, ED5094, ED5095 and ED5096 over the course of one year for a total of 24 credit points.
Continue to implement the proposal for a small-scale research project developed in ED5094 and started in ED5095. The research should be conducted and written up independently, with guidance and advice from the research advisor. The thesis should be 18-20,000 words. It should clearly define a topic, provide a rationale, set the proposed research in context of appropriate literature, describe methods for generating, gathering and/or analysing research data and discuss methodological issues associated with those methods. It should present the data generated as part of the research project, and a discussion of that data, in an appropriate format. It should draw conclusions and implications from the research (including as appropriate, implications for theory, practice and further research), relate findings and conclusions to relevant literature, and offer a critical estimate of the significance and limitations of the research. The thesis will undergo formal examination for a subject result.
Learning Outcomes
- a working knowledge of appropriate research methods;
- an ability to identify different research traditions and relate specific research (including the Honours thesis) to these traditions;
- a capacity to systematically generate and analyse data in relation to contextually relevant research questions;
- a capacity to produce an extended piece of educational research writing presented as an Honours thesis for examination at AQF Level 8.
