This subject addresses principles and practices related to teaching and learning in the humanities and social sciences in early childhood settings for children from birth to 8 years with reference to relevant state and national curriculum frameworks. The subject develops pre-service teachers' competence in planning, implementing and assessing social inquiries which position young learners as active and informed citizens. The subject builds a repertoire of strategies that support the development of strong personal identities connected to families, communities and the wider world. Particular attention will be given to developments in the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian curriculum, including the cross-curriculum priorities of Indigenous perspectives, Asian perspectives and sustainability.
