This subject assists students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for planning, teaching and assessing learnings in Health and Physical Education in early childhood relevant to State and National curriculum an initiatives. Students will examine the pedagogical models and trends influencing early childhood (birth to 8 years) Health and Physical Education (HPE), including the educative purpose, strengths-based and inquiry approaches, health literacy, valuing movement, the role of play, social sustainability and Indigenous perspectives. Approaches to developing learner-centred, integrated and inclusive learning experiences are emphasised.
Learning Outcomes
- develop and apply a reflective and analytical view of teaching and teaching resources, and the students own teaching of Health and Physical Education;
- develop confidence and competence in structuring inclusive learning tasks activities and planning purposeful lessons required in teaching the Health and Physical Education curriculum;
- introduce issues of social sustainability and Indigenous perspectives particular to health and physical education;
- demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and for BEd(ECE) students an understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework at an introduced or developed level;
- develop an understanding of and commitment to propositions of educative purpose, strengths-based and inquiry approaches, health literacy, and valuing movement.
