In this subject students will investigate the history, theory and philosophy of curatorial practice. In addition students will learn the skills required to curate exhibitions including media releases, catalogue essays, exhibition design, lighting and sales. Strategies for the confident selection of artwork based on a soundly presented rationale will be prioritised, while the care, storage and handling of art works will also be discussed. Students will undertake project-based work in a field of curatorial practice.

Learning Outcomes

• critically analyse exhibitions and exhibition strategies including public programs;
• carry out an exhibition evaluation demonstrating a knowledge of audience development and feedback strategies;
• engage with information about the history, theory and philosophy of curatorial practice;
• design and execute an exhibition or curatorial process and demonstrate knowledge of gallery layout, lighting and storage of artworks;
• design media to advertise an exhibition.
