This subject provides students with an introduction to a range of lens-based technology, its history and associated technologies. The lecture series will introduce students to an overview of the history of lens-based media and will look at a selection of case studies revealing the process and practice of professionals and their work. Technical instruction during the tutorial/practical sessions will provide students with the opportunity to gain skills with regards to the use of lens based equipment and associated technology (software). As an introductory subject, students will be introduced to safe practices pertaining to handling equipment, image processing, data storage and retrieval.
Learning Outcomes
- create a folio of original images;
- use appropriate software for lens-based processing and production;
- apply foundation knowledge regarding the history of lens-based practice including the still and moving image;
- operate digital capture devices such as DSLR and video cameras effectively;
- use composition and colour usage in lens-based products.
