Normal anatomy and histology of aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates from a disease perspective; responses to disease; description of important infectious diseases of aquatic animals and control; case studies with an aquaculture bias; establishment of piscine cell lines.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate the role quarantine plays in controlling aquatic disease;
• introduce diagnostic case studies;
• introduce students to the major aquatic diseases in Australia;
• introduce the students to research;
• introduce the students to the various methods of pathogen isolation and culture used when investigating fish kills;
• teach the students the diagnostic approach to disease control.

Prerequisites:	MI2030 or MI2031 recommended
Inadmissible Subject Combinations:	MI3031 and MI5031
