This subject will introduce students to role of research and evaluation in health promotion and will develop their skills in undertaking health promotion research and program evaluation. Students will be introduced to the key concepts and approaches to health promotion research and evaluation and to the methods that can be used. The subject will also develop students' skills in understanding and assessing the quality of published health promotion research.
Learning Outcomes
- describe the role of evaluation within health promotion; describe the differences between formative, process, impact and outcome evaluation;
- choose appropriate evaluation designs and research methods for health promotion program evaluation; describe and select appropriate qualitative and quantitative measuring instruments used in evaluation;
- develop an evaluation plan for a health promotion program; prepare evaluation reports;
- describe ethical considerations in regards to health promotion research and evaluation; describe protocols to be followed when conducting research and evaluation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups; identify means of interpreting results and determining program effectiveness;
- assess the value of continuing a health promotion program; and describe strategies to increase the likelihood of sustaining successful health promotion programs.
