RH1002 - Communication Skills for Health Professionals

Available to level 1 Occupational Therapy, Dental Surgery, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology and Diploma of Health Science students. Students not enrolled in any of these courses should contact the subject coordinator for the tutorial availability details.

Communication skills for health professionals will explore health profesional/client communication, professional communication with other health professionals and the public. Written and interpersonal skills will be developed. Practical verbal and nonverbal skills in effective listening, interviewing and assertive communication will be acquired through a variety of class exercises and workbook activities. Students will develop information technology skills as well as appropriate styles of writing for different purposes. Completion of a literature review will enable students to develop skills in searching for, reviewing and integrating current literature. Students will be required to reflect on their values, feelings, activities and performance throughout the course.
