Credit points: 03
Year: 2014
Student Contribution Band: Band 2
Administered by:

Clinical Pharmaceutics is a developing specialty, providing the pharmacist and other healthcare professions with the knowledge to aid the basic understanding of pharmaceutics in determining or modifying the clinical outcomes for patients. Advanced Clinical Pharmaceutics will build on the knowledge and experience gained in Clinical Pharmaceutics in the physicochemical characteristics of drugs that inform the pharmacist as to whether it is safe to modify or repackage certain dosage forms or drug products. In addition to some basic formulation skills gained in clinical pharmaceutics, this advanced subject will explore specialised paediatric and geriatric formulations, issues associated with generic medicines and future delivery systems for modern therapeutics. Throughout this subject consideration will be given to the role of pharmacists in advancing the provision of safe and effective medicines, in whatever environment they may practice, whether that is in community pharmacy, specialised hospital pharmacy or in rural and remote practice.
