Available to level 4 Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy IHCAP students.
The focus of this subject will be on the student developing a higher level of professional skills and competencies, and further advancing their clinical reasoning skills and reflective practices through the integration of practical and course components. This subject will provide students with an opportunity to further integrate their learning gained from previous practice education. Students will complete a minimum of 380 hours which includes a 10 week advanced supervised fieldwork placement with flexible support from the university. The placement will be either rural or urban at an advanced level and will enable the student to apply, develop, analyse and integrate the theories, principles and practice of occupational therapy in a variety of settings. Students may be required to undertake placements in a facility away from the campus at which they are currently enrolled, at their own expense.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate competency in the observation and assessment of function or dysfunction in activities affecting occupational performance;
- demonstrate competency in the evaluation of clients occupational roles and activities following occupational therapy intervention;
- develop individual aims of OT intervention and outcomes of practice for clients demonstrating competent clinical reasoning within cultural psychosocial and environmental contexts;
- demonstrate data collection and analysis techniques for evidence based practice;
- demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviours during practice, demonstrate good time management skills and achieve competency for registration requirements.
