Student Contribution Band: | Band 1 |
Administered by: | School of Nursing, Midwifery & Nutrition (pre 2015) |
Students undertake supervised/mentored clinical practice in a selected clinical setting to develop their understanding of advanced practice nursing knowledge, reasoning, and intervention skills for the prevention of disease, health promotion, and illness within a specialised nursing area. Students will progress from assisted practitioner level to a level of increasing autonomy. Students are required to synthesise theoretical knowledge with clinical practicum situations in the evaluation of complex and unpredictable patient/client presentations, inclusive of comorbidities, demonstrated through complete and focused physical examinations, history taking, diagnostic ordering and interpretation and therapeutic management.
Learning Outcomes
- (1) conduct advanced, culturally competent comprehensive and holistic health assessment relevant to the specialised nursing field across stable, unpredictable and complex situations; (2) differentiate between normal, variations of normal and abnormal findings in clinical assessment with minimal supervision;
- (3) demonstrate ability to synthesise and interpret client/patient history, physical findings and diagnostic data to identify normal and abnormal findings to generate problem lists, problem prioritisation, differential diagnoses and probable diagnosis in stable, unpredictable and complex situations; (4) demonstrate application of informed and autonomous clinical decisions related to preventative management, diagnostics, therapeutic interventions and treatment options in stable, unpredictable and complex situations;
- (5) demonstrate ability to evaluate and apply established and evolving clinical knowledge to practice throughout the individual practice context; (6) demonstrate ability to appropriately utilise clinical decision tools in practice settings;
- (7) demonstrate the ability to conduct research; (8) actively participate in and lead multidisciplinary team collaboration to facilitate safe and effective patient/client centred health outcomes within a clearly defined scope of practice; and;
- (9) critically reflect on clinical skills and competencies for advanced and extended clinical practice.
