Professional Midwifery Care is designed to encapsulate aspects of the art and science of midwifery practice through discussion of the socio-historical, cultural and political issues for midwives, ethico-legal concerns, and contemporary professional issues.

Learning Outcomes

• compare and contrast the various methods and models of midwifery care;
• foster a multi-disciplinary team approach to self and peer education and clinical research;
• identify relationships between ethical, legal and professional behaviours in midwifery practice;
• apply theoretical concepts to specific midwifery skills;
• reflect and analyse on their own developing practice to identify learning needs and to plan ongoing professional development to meet those needs and to document their professional development over the course of the degree and their careers;
• understand to the full extent of the midwifes role as a practitioner, according to national and statutory requirements.
