This subject will introduce the registered nurse to advanced physiological nursing knowledge and advanced physical nursing assessment. Content includes physiological and biological concepts which inform specialist nursing practice and this will be applied to patients with complex health care needs. The subject is relevant to nurses caring for patients in specialist clinical practice settings.
Learning Outcomes
- identify patients who have altered health status as a result of bio/psycho/social factors;
- describe the importance of pathophysiological processes in relation to the development of acute and chronic disease states;
- discuss pharmacological concepts related to treating patients who are critically ill;
- apply principles of microbiology when treating patients with complex health problems.
