NS2215 - Specialist Nursing in Northern Australia

This clinical subject is one of a suite of three second year clinical electives, all of which focus on the consolidation of the repertoire of clinical skills learnt in the four previous clinical subjects, Clinical Nursing Practice 1-4. These skills need to be integrated into the provision of direct patient care, with a particular focus on reflection and observation by the student of those influences operating within the specific context of each of the elective subjects, as described below. This subject aims to provide nursing students with a broad introduction to the many different speciality areas of nursing practice in Northern Australia. Building on Clinical Nursing Practice 1-4 students have the opportunity to consolidate their nursing knowledge and skills while exploring the complexities and priorities of nursing care within a clinical speciality area in our local context. In addition to providing specific nursing assessment knowledge, this unit aims to provide theories and principles that assist students to plan for appropriate nursing care within complex working environments.
