This subject explores the evolution of the moving image and its practical applications in an artistic and narrative setting. Students are be required to create a series of moving image works throughout the study period culminating in a team based narrative project. Along the way, students explore a variety of time-based media techniques including image capture and mixing, non-linear video editing and DVD publishing. Students are required to watch and critique a season of moving image texts which explore a variety of cinematic styles and production methodologies, from the avant-garde to contemporary video art, video installation, web video and Australian and International cinema.
Learning Outcomes
- ability to describe the process followed from conception to production in the set project with links to the relevant academic, theoretical and professional debates;
- skills needed to analyse and self-evaluate video production project;
- demonstrated technical and creative proficiency in all aspects of capture, manipulation and storage of production material;
- capacity to work within a creative team setting using a range of negotiation and mediation skills.
