Available to Masters of Rural and Remote Medicine or Postgraduate Diploma of Rural and Remote Medicine students only or by permission of Head of School.
This subject will equip the student with communication skills for particular individuals and in specific context including communication for effective disaster management, for statutory and legal reporting, with different cultural and inter-professional groups. Different communication and technology will be used and discussed.
Learning Outcomes
- Communicate findings of clinical assessment and management effectively and sensitively to the patient and/or carer, and to the health team including clinical handover;
- Develop, implement and maintain a management plan for hospitalised patients in collaboration with the patient and/or carer and undertake early, planned and interprofessional discharge planning;
- Write clinical documentation in accordance with legal and professional standards and provide accurate and ethical certification when required for sickness, employment, social benefits and other purposes;
- Communicate and collaborate with consulting or receiving clinical personnel and agencies responsible for key population health functions including public health services, health workers from many disciplines, employer groups and local government;
- Participate in disaster planning and implementation of disaster plans, and post-incident analysis and debriefing.
