Available to students enrolled in Master of Rural and Remote Medicine program and staff of organisations that develop continuing medical education programs.
The current focus of the health care system is to encourage health professionals to work together in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and to deliver and demonstrate quality care that improves the health of the population and responds to consumers needs. This primary health care approach requires education providers to base their programs on identified educational needs and adult learning principles which fit the learning styles and work situations of practising health professionals. This subject has been designed as a guide for education providers on how to introduce evidence-based continuing professional education and development to facilitate change and learning.
Learning Outcomes
- Analyse the social, cultural, environmental, economic and occupational determinants of health that affect the community burden of disease and access to health-related services in rural and remote areas;
- Apply a population health approach that is relevant to the clinical practice profile of a rural and remote location;
- Participate in disaster planning and implementation of disaster plans, and post-incident analysis and debriefing;
- Teach and clinically supervise health students, juniors and other health professionals;
- Evaluate principles of cultural beliefs, partnership, community ownership, consultation, capacity building, reciprocity and respect to health care delivery, health surveillance and research.
