Available to Graduate Diploma of Research Methods, Graduate Certificate of Research Methods, Graduate Diploma of Science, Master of Applied Science, Master of Development Practice and Master of Science students.

This subject will provide students with practical introduction to basic techniques relevant to marine and terrestrial research, e.g. histotechniques (including histo-chemistry), microscopy, biological illustration, microphotography, aquarium maintenance (fish and marine invertebrates), scientific writing, preparation and presentation. Various staff members in the school will be involved in this subject which will emphasise hands-on training through the practical and demonstration sessions.

Assumed Knowledge:

Students enrolling in this subject should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (eg biology or environmental science) or have acquired equivalent knowledge through other study. A good background in biology is essential, particularly cell biology and invertebrate zoology. A basic understanding of chemistry is recommended.
