This subject compares and contrasts the foundations of Western, Asian and Islamic business. The focus will firstly be on the nature of business systems, including organisation, leadership, human resource management and change management principles. Secondly, finance and banking systems will be examined, followed by an overview of the major legal systems of the world and their impact on national and international businesses. Ethical perspectives within Western, Asian and Islamic business will also be compared and contrasted.
Learning Outcomes
- critically compare and contrast Western, Asian and Islamic business systems and evaluate the implications for business performance in markets where these systems predominate;
- critically investigate the foundations and operations of financial and banking systems prevalent in a range of cultural contexts and evaluate the implications for business practice;
- compare and contrast ethical concepts across a range of cultural contexts and demonstrate an understanding of the basis on which ethical business decisions are made within these settings;
- critically compare and contrast legal systems within different jurisdictions and apply this knowledge to business practice.
