Available to students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Primary Health Care Research.

The aim of this unit is to enable students to develop research skills and knowledge in developing, designing and conducting a small research study relative to primary health care. Specific objectives are to: learn how to identify a research topic; develop skills in information retrieval and the critical analysis of published material; develop a research protocol that involves the collection, including relevant ethics applications, analysis and interpretation of data; produce a written report that demonstrates evidence of research ability and written communication skills; present the findings to faculty and fellow students (using PowerPoint).

Learning Outcomes

• Develop the ability to find and critically review available literature;
• Develop a full research proposal;
• Develop an ethics application;
• Conduct a research or evaluation project;
• Present and disseminate work in a suitable format (report, peer-reviewed publication, conference presentation).

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.
