Principles and concepts in rainforest conservation management including detailed studies of selected methods and problems; management of tropical rainforest environments globally including ecological, economic and social aspects; land capability, land degradation, sustainability; protected area management and conservation issues outside reserves.

Learning Outcomes

• develop an awareness and understanding of the major global issues in the conservation of biodiversity in rainforests and of ecologically sustainable management;
• develop comprehension and appreciation of human- rainforest relationships, especially links with forest resources and ecological processes;
• develop conceptual frameworks for analysis and evaluation.
