In this subject preservice teachers will explore policies and theories of curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment and reporting and use these to develop practices. They will develop skills in planning and responding appropriately to the diversity of student needs within an ethic of care and justice. The subject will encourage preservice teachers to work collaboratively to develop their understanding of the integration of ICTs, education for sustainability, and Indigenous perspectives within their professional practices. Preservice teachers will develop repertories of practice relating to the development of teaching and learning activities within supportive learning environments including the recognition of individual and special needs, and effective interactions with the wider community.
Learning Outcomes
- utilise a range of evidence based teaching strategies to support student engagement, respond to learner diversity and ensure development of language literacy and numeracy skills;
- develop and critique a range of ways of assessing, interpreting and reporting on student learning for various purposes and audiences;
- analyse research, polices and school practices related to the provision of supportive learning environments and student well-being;
- critically analyse the role of the teacher and develop strategies for school renewal;
- use professional standards to assess and report on their own professional learning needs and development as they apply to preservice teachers.
