Core subject for BEd (ECE) students.

This subject introduces students to early childhood principles and practice, based on the <i>National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education</i>, the <i>Early Years Learning Framework</i> and the <i>Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline</i>. Taking a play-based approach, the curriculum decision-making processes of planning, interacting, monitoring, assessing and reflecting will be explored in relation to documenting the learning and development of a focal child. Six (6) full days of professional experience in a prior to school setting will offer students the opportunity to link theoretical learning to classroom practice. (Note: the 6 days professional experience is spread over 6 weeks, that is, 1 day per week)

Assumed knowledge in this subject includes an understanding of the development of the young child in terms of physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development as studied in ED1481:03 Foundations of Educational Psychology.
Prerequisites:6 credit points of level 1 ED subjects including ED1481
