This subject introduces students to the fundamentals, basic theory, and practice of digital photography. It provides an introduction to the history of photography and the progression of the photographic form to current digital processes. Students learn the practical use of digital SLR cameras and accessories. It is especially useful to students who need a basic level of photographic skills as an adjunct to their major area of study. Students studying journalism, sciences, anthropology, archaeology, tourism or media related courses find this a useful subject, as will any student with an interest in improving their photographic skills and understanding.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate foundation knowledge of the history and processes of photographic practice;
- operate a generic digital SLR camera;
- demonstrate competentencies in the use of digital SLR cameras in the creation of photographic images;
- demonstrate foundation skills in natural and artificial photographic lighting;
- demonstrate foundation skills in the use of digital imaging software;
- use appropriate file formats and file management.
