This subject focuses on situated and user-centred analysis, design and testing of the usability and user experience of interactive systems. Aspects of the following topics will be considered: conceptual theories, user characteristics, user modelling, and usability engineering (user-centred design, user needs analysis, participatory design and usability evaluation).
Learning Outcomes
- understand and be able to apply situated and user-centred design techniques;
- be aware of the range of design paradigms, principles and guidelines that can assist user interface designers, and understand the limitations of such approaches, principles, and guidelines;
- understand the advantages and disadvantages of various usability engineering approaches;
- understand the cognitive, social and situated factors that can make interactive systems effective.
