BA1002 - Our Space: Networks, Narrative and the Making of Place

Credit points: 03
Year: 2014
Student Contribution Band: Band 1
Administered by: School of Arts and Social Sciences (pre 2015)

This core first-year subject in the Bachelor of Arts introduces students to a range of methodological approaches and academic disciplines that are central to the Faculty. Focusing on the related notions of "place," "networks," "narratives," and "identities," the subject exposes students to the different ways that academic disciplines approach shared concerns and address shared questions. The subject explores the concept of 'Our Space' through the following questions: Why are networks important to place-making? How do they locate us and place us in space? How do the stories we tell flow through networks of communication and exchange? And in what ways do such networks shape our identities and the ways we experience our place in the world?
