This subject provides an advanced understanding of motor learning and control principles. Emphasis is given to the neuroscience of motor control and the means by which neuromuscular considerations influence changes to the acquisition of movement skills. Students will utilise the principles of motor learning and control for the assessment of movement skills and the subsequent design of skill acquistion programming.

Learning Outcomes

• to understand the neural, physiological and cognitive bases for controlling movement;
• the understand the neuroscience of motor changes that occurs in sport, exercise and clinical contexts;
• to apply knowledge of motor control and learning principles to the assessment and organisation of movement skill acquisition situations in sport and exercise.
