Available to sport and exercise science students, physical education students and other students as approved by the Director of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science.
This subject is designed to teach students the fundamental principles and practices of strength training and conditioning for sport performance. There is an emphasis on the practical understanding of the design, implementation and instruction of training programs and drills/exercises for sport conditioning.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to evaluate the physical capacity requirements of a sport;
- Describe the principles and practices of strength training and conditioning for sports performance;
- Demonstrate an understanding of and familiarity with the techniques used in performing strength training and conditioning exercises/drills;
- Understand procedures used in conditioning athletes to optimize physiological responses (both acute and chronic);
- Understand the principles of periodization of training for sport performance.
