Enrolment is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Speech Pathology IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours Programs.

This subject will provide knowledge about acquired motor speech disorders (of neurological origin) across the lifespan (i.e. in both children and adults). The subject will develop skills necessary for competent practice in the assessment, diagnosis and management of acquired motor speech disorders within a holistic and client-centred approach.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate knowledge of: The neuorological diseases, disorders and injuries associated with acquired speech impairments in adults and children; The underlying pathology and features associated with the dysarthrias and apraxia of speech; The limitations and restrictions acquired speech impairments can impose on the activities and participation of people with these impairments;
• demonstrate competency in: Selecting and administering appropriate informal and formal assessments for acquired speech impairments; Analysing and interpreting assessment results; Identifying further information and referral requirements for acquired speech impairments; Developing comprehensive and detailed plans for intervention for acquired speech impairments; Reporting on findings and making recommendations for future management.

BM1051 AND BM1052 AND SL1004 AND SL2006 and allow concurrent for BM1051 AND BM1052 AND SL1004

Assessment:	end of semester exam (30% - 50%); quizzes or tests (10% - 20%); presentations (% - 20%); assignments (20% - 40%).
Special Assessment Requirements:	Students must achieve a minimum of 50% for all assessment components. Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all tutorials, workshops and practical sessions.
