This subject introduces students to several selected areas of specialised physiotherapy practice. The areas of practice have been chosen to develop advanced skills in areas of practice or introduce students to areas of specialised practice they may not have encountered during clinical placement including burns, paediatrics, hand therapy and occupational health and safety. Students will also be required to participate in 20 hours of professional development in the course of the study period. This will serve to highlight the importance of continual skills development for these emerging health professionals.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate understanding of occupational health and safety principles and legislation;
• through acquiring 20 or more hours of professional development training, display the commitment to skills development and life-long learning which will be vital to professional growth throughout the student's career;
• explain the rationale for assessment and treatment of individuals in specialised practice settings such as amputees, burns and occupational health and safety.

Assessment:	end of semester exam (70%); assignments (30%).
Special Assessment Requirements:	Students must pass the end of semester exam to pass the subject. As a must pass requirement students must attend and pass the paediatric module to be eligible to pass the subject.
