Enrolment in this subject is restricted to all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Physiotherapy IHCAP and the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Honours Programs.

The subject provides physiotherapy students with an introduction to acute care issues as they relate to physiotherapy practice. Students apply their knowledge of body systems, particularly the cardiopulmonary system, gained in BM1041:03 Anatomy and Physiology for Physiotherapy 1 and BM1042:03 Anatomy and Physiology for Physiotherapy 2, to the analysis of clinical cases commonly seen in the acute health care setting. Students acquire assessment and intervention skills and further develop clinical reasoning abilities.

Assessment:end of semester exam (50%); other exams (20%); presentations (10%); oral exam (20%).
Special Assessment Requirements:Students must pass the written exam, oral exam and practical exam in order to pass the subject. Students must also pass each technique in the practical exam in order to pass the practical exam. To pass the subject students must attend clinical placement, submit a completed clinical logbook and complete ePortfolio items as described in the subject outline. No marks are allotted to the clinical placement, clinical logbook or ePortfolio items.
