PP3201 - Contemporary Research in Physiology

This subject will build upon the basic and theoretical concepts taught in other physiology subjects. Students will learn about the array of technologies and methods currently employed in monitoring/quantitating physiological processes and the application of these methods to solve physiological problems. The emphasis of this subject will be on current research issues in physiology.

Learning Outcomes

• students will be able to describe a range of experimental methods suitable for <i> in vitro </i> and <i> in vivo </i> research in physiology;
• students will be able to state the advantages and disadvantages of these experimental methods;
• students will be able to choose an appropriate experimental method for the measurement of particular physiological parameters;
• students will obtain hands-on experience in selected experimental physiological methods; collect, analyse and interpret data in the context of the current physiological literature.
