This subject aims to introduce the registered nurse to issues of continuing professional development. As nurses, students will explore topics including reflective practice and ethico-legal issues in specialty nursing practice as well as assess specialised nursing practice using competency standards. Students will compile their own professional portfolio based on subject content applied to their area of expertise.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of the application of reflective practice and ethico-legal principles to their practice through the development of a professional portfolio;
- engage in activities which enhance their own and colleagues' ongoing education and abilities as a specialised practitioner and record the nature of these activities through the portfolio development process;
- demonstrate, via the portfolio development process, an understanding of the principles and value of competency based assessment for specialised practice.
