The capstone subject will include an emphasis on assessment, implementation and collaborative management of a person requiring complex health care. Clinical experience will occur in medical, surgical and specialised areas of nursing practice. Students will be introduced to basic principles of management and leadership exploring the concepts of accountability, responsibility, change and influence within organisations. Key areas for this subject will be scope and standards of professional practice, clinical application of knowledge and nursing care, interpersonal collaboration and communication, supervision and delegation and the quality improvement of care.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate clinical nursing skills and techniques in caring for individuals with complex health problems;
• critically analyse the process of transition from student to novice RN;
• develop strategies for managing complex clinical situations and apply ethical and legal principles to complex health situations;
• investigate key elements associated with the Scope of Practice for Nurses;
• discuss the group dynamics associated with interdisciplinary multicultural interactions within the workplace, including the key skill of negotiation.
