NS1911 is available only to students admitted to Bachelor of Nursing Science (Graduate Entry) [100508]. Available via Townsville campus only.
A pre-residential package of guided study will be sent prior to a 4-week block program in mid to late January that presents the basic nursing skills, communication and health care industry requisites and skills. A mandatory 2 week clinical placement at a low dependency unit follows the residential school when basic nursing skills are assessed. On successful completion of NS1911, the student can progress to the second and then third year subjects.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical concepts underpinning the various foundational nursing skills;
- develop and apply the clinical skills needed for client/patient assessment and nursing intervention in non-acute adult nursing care;
- demonstrate the various basic nursing skills to at least a first year nursing student level during clinical practice;
- utilise evidence/research based information for nursing practice;
- apply skills of clinical decision making and reflective practice in caring for adults in non-acute clinical settings.
