This subject explores the concept of illness and examines the experience of hospitalisation on individuals. The skills of decision making and reflective practice are again emphasised, with students being given the opportunity to analyse and interpret data in the preparation of nursing care plans and nursing interventions. Students will continue to utilise a problem solving process introduced in Clinical Nursing Practice 1 and will apply this within the clinical setting.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of illness as they relate to nursing practice;
- describe the effects of hospitalisation on individuals and suggest strategies to resolve any problems which may occur;
- integrate knowledge from other subjects in applying the skills of clinical decision making and reflective practice;
- develop and apply the clinical skills needed for assessment and intervention of patients in the clinical setting;
- demonstrate an awareness of the need for research- based clinical practice.
