NM3703 - Directing Project

Credit points: 03
Year: 2013
Student Contribution Band: Band 1
Administered by: School of Creative Arts

Students focus on the distinction between the performance artist and the director examining the idea of alternative space as the director's stage. Students research the historical developments of directing for stage and contemporary performance artists including Annie Sprinkle, Karen Finley, Gilbert and George, Laurie Anderson and others to provide students with contextual frameworks to site their own performances. Individual projects integrate image, text, graphic, light and sound into the final theatrical product and students participate in all facets of the director's process: demonstrating qualities of leadership, choosing/writing a performance; developing the concept; auditioning, conceptualising; design, costumes, sound and lighting; exploring rehearsal techniques with actors/performers; developing mise en scene; tempo-rhythm.
