This subject will inform students of the critical role that music plays in contemporary aural and visual media cultures including the web, radio, film and television. Key aspects relevant to production and reception are examined in the context of local, national and global environments. Relationships between sound and media outputs are explored in both mainstream and alternative settings.

Learning Outcomes

• ability to undertake basic analysis tasks relevant to a range of sound and music devices applied in media settings;
• basic aural analysis skills as relevant to sound and music;
• understanding of the use and production of music and sound in a variety of contemporary media settings.
