This subject will equip students to respond to domestic and family violence in family work, and to operate in a family law environment. Students will develop advanced skills in family dispute resolution and practice managing some of the more challenging situations that may arise in the family context. The subject covers a number of the competencies required for Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Accreditation in Australia.
Learning Outcomes
- describe the nature of disputes within families with special consideration of domestic and family violence and identify relevant family law;
- explain the role of a family dispute resolution practitioner when dealing with domestic and family violence and analyse family dispute resolution strategies relating to domestic and family violence;
- apply techniques and principles to facilitate family dispute resolution in mediation role-plays;
- role play a number of family mediation situations and critically analyse your practical experience gained in these role plays;
- develop a range of skills to respond to family violence in the mediation room. create an environment that supports the safety of vulnerable parties in dispute resolution.
