This subject provides an opportunity for students to develop their knowledge by facilitating the connection of the theory and practice of conflict and dispute resolution. It consists of a supervised project undertaken in an area related to dispute resolution or conflict resolution. The project can be undertaken as a Work Integrated Learning project, a service learning project working with a community organisation, or a research based project. Project outcomes include submission of a project report, literature review and/or research essay as negotiated with the Supervisor. In each case students work with a supervisor in deciding upon a topic, planning the project and execution. Quotas apply to this subject and entry is on a competitive merit basis requiring students to submit an application for assessment before permission of the Program Director will be granted.
Learning Outcomes
- critically analyse issues arising from practice with reference to theory using a specific situation and/or a case example;
- evaluate and summarise the placement experience/project in an acceptable format;
- engage in consultation and reflective practice within the context of supervision and apply conflict management and communication techniques and skills to complex and new real world situations OR apply conflict management and resolution skills to design, evaluate, implement, analyse and theorise about developments that contribute to professional practice;
- develop a range of technical and social skills to work effectively and independently in an industry relevant context AND develop individual written and oral presentation skills for effective communication in the workplace;
- describe the context and processes for conflict management/resolution in the placement organisation AND explain your professional role within the placement setting OR describe the conflict management/resolution theory forming the background to the conflict resolution project AND explain the purpose and methodology for the conflict resolution project.
