In this subject students will develop their mediation knowledge and skills in order to facilitate dispute resolution in a family law context. Students will also learn how to implement family dispute resolution strategies and how to create an environment that supports the safety of vulnerable parties in dispute resolution. Students will also consider ethical issues in family practice. The subject covers a number of the competencies required for Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Accreditation in Australia.
Learning Outcomes
- describe the nature of disputes within families. Identify particularities of family dispute resolution in the family law context;
- explain the role of a family dispute resolution practitioner and the stages of family dispute resolution processes and analyse family dispute resolution strategies;
- apply techniques and principles to facilitate family dispute resolution in mediation role-plays;
- develop a range of skills in family mediation and create an environment that supports the safety of vulnerable parties in dispute resolution;
- role play a number of family mediation situations and critically analyse your practical experience gained in these role plays.
