In this subject the student is introduced to the contemporary concepts of lifespan development. The physical, cognitive, emotional and socio-cultural aspects of lifespan development are addressed. These will be applied to all periods of the lifespan to promote the lifelong well-being of individuals. The impact of developmental disability and context on the psychosocial experiences of people is discussed.

Learning Outcomes

• apply concepts of lifespan development to the nursing of individuals of various age groups;
• describe the sequence of human development and the processes underlying it;
• discuss the impact of developmental disability and context on the psychosocial experiences of individuals;
• outline the interdependency of physical, cognitive, emotional, social and cultural aspects of development;
• explore the concept and theoretical perspectives of human lifespan development.
