A knowledge of common materials science and engineering for structural, electrical, magnetic, optical engineering, and biomedical applications: Properties of materials and microstructures; nature of metal and alloys (equilibrium diagrams and the iron-carbon system; ferrous metals and alloys; non-ferrous metals and alloys; heat treatment); ceramic materials (ceramics and glasses, forming of ceramics, structure and defects in ceramics); polymer processing; composites; biomedical materials; nanomaterials; and materials selection.
